Health Insurance

The health insurance plan offered through the University is administered by Maksin Management Corp., and coordinated by the RFUMS Finance Department. For more details, including contact information, click here.

The Student Health Center accepts health insurance from a variety of insurance carriers; however, health insurance plans often vary greatly in their definitions of which services are eligible for coverage and which services are not.

For example, one insurance plan may cover part or all of the cost of a routine physical, while a different insurance plan may not pay for any routine care, just accidents or catastrophic injury.

If you have questions about coverage for specific services, we recommend you contact your insurance company directly at the customer service number listed on your insurance card.

Other payment options are also available. You may pay by cash, check, or credit/debit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express). Any co-payments or co-insurance due must be paid at the time of your visit.

  6.  How does the Student Counseling Service work? What can I expect?
Students needing assistance with personal concerns can call 847.578.8723 to schedule an initial consultation appointment with a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. During this first appointment, you will complete preliminary paperwork and will meet with your counselor for approximately 50 minutes to discuss your presenting concerns and decide on a course of action that best meets your needs. During the initial consultation appointment, you and the psychologist may decide on one or more of the following options:

Individual counseling at the Student Counseling Service
•   Additional assessment at the Student Counseling Service
•   A referral to another Rosalind Franklin University resource
•   A referral to an off-campus agency or resource
A referral to an off-campus practice for psychiatric consultation and medication

Please note that during times of the highest demand, the requests for counseling can outnumber our staff resources. At these times, we will work with you to obtain counseling services that meet your needs with an off-campus agency.

Individual Counseling
If individual counseling at Student Counseling Service is recommended, the student will discuss goals and length of counseling with her/his assigned psychologist. Counseling at Student Counseling Service is based on a short-term model, which means that the focus of counseling is on addressing presenting concerns and meeting the goals that are outlined for treatment.   Sessions with your assigned provider are typically weekly and last for 45 – 50 minutes.

Assessment Services
For certain presenting concerns, additional assessment can be helpful in determining the best course of treatment. Some examples of these types of concerns are with eating related or substance use concerns. If you are dealing with either of these presenting concerns, your provider may offer additional assessment beyond your initial consultation appointment and could make a referral for additional services after the assessment has been conducted.

Crisis Services
During regular Student Counseling Service hours of operation (Mon., Tues., and Thurs., 9 – 6), a psychologist will be available to assist with personal crisis situations. Students are encouraged to come to the Student Counseling Service if experiencing a personal crisis to be seen at the first available opportunity during these regular hours of operation. A personal crisis is one in which there is no immediate danger of harm to self or others. Students, faculty, or staff can call for consultation and crisis intervention services for a Rosalind Franklin University student during regular hours of operation. A licensed clinical psychologist will be available via phone Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., for consultation at 847-247-6910.
